Supporting People to Understand Their Territory Through Spatial Knowledge
About Community Spatial Futures
Community Spatial Futures is a solo practice founded by Richard, a Chartered Town Planner (MRTPI) who works as a spatial mentor. I help households, community groups, and local actors build clarity and confidence as they navigate decisions about water, land, energy and everyday resilience.
My work is grounded in simple tools, structured conversations, and long‑term support. It’s not consultancy. It’s a steady, relational process of understanding place and exploring what’s possible.

About the Practice
My background spans planning, renewable energy, and spatial strategy, but the heart of my practice is straightforward: helping people make sense of their environment so they can make grounded, confident decisions.
I work closely with local actors, supporting them to develop spatial thinking and practical capacity rooted in their own lived experience. The focus is always on clarity, and decisions that fit real‑world conditions.
Community Spatial Futures is built on the belief that small, well‑supported steps can strengthen resilience over time. The practice focuses on:
• understanding territory
• building confidence through simple tools
• supporting long‑term decision‑making
• working at the pace of the people involved
Over time, the practice will continue to develop simple, accessible ways for people to build spatial understanding at their own pace.
